Dr Bradley Nelson on the Emotion Code
"When I was first exploring energy work for healing many years ago, my number one concern was that I not be deceived. As you know, there is all sorts of energy work out there where 'spirits' are 'channelled' and so on, and I did not want to have anything to do with anything remotely evil or dark. So I started praying for guidance and help about it. In fact, I got into the habit of praying before each session, just to make sure that the Holy Ghost was going to be there with me, and that I would not be deceived. This began many years ago....
For about the first 10 years that I was in practice, I prayed constantly that I would be given the gift of healing. After about 10 years I stopped, because I realized that I had been given that gift, as well as the gift of teaching. Everything in my life, all my abilities, all my skills, have brought me to this point in my life, where I am able to get the word out to the world about these healing methods.
The church has not made any official stand on energy work that I know of.
To me, asking whether or not the church has taken a stand on energy work is kind of like asking whether or not the church has taken a stand on videotape. Videotape can be used for evil or good, depending on what is put on it. in the same way, energy work is able to be used for good or evil, depending on the intention of the user, and depending on the source they are drawing their support from!
But energy work is a pretty big umbrella, don't you think? Energy work includes just about every sort of healing that is outside of mainstream medicine, doesn't it? Acupuncture is a form of energy medicine, for example. I suppose that some LDS leaders frown on acupuncture, since it is outside of mainstream medicine. Yet acupuncture works very well, and has for a long time. Yet I am sure there are LDS leaders that would oppose you seeing an acupuncturist, don't you think?
The natural human tendency is to dismiss and fear things we don't understand, even if we believe we are more enlightened than the world at large because we have the Restored Gospel.
As you know, when I teach the Emotion Code and the Body Code, I always emphasize how important it is to pray. I can't overemphasize it enough for people. If you try to do this work without praying and asking Heavenly Father for help, in the name of Jesus Christ, the dark spirits which surround us all are all too willing to deceive you.
Does the Emotion Code or does the Body Code do away with the Atonement of Christ? Absolutely not!
It was through prayer that this work all came about. I believe that this is my mission in this world, to bring this new form of healing into this world, and at the same time what does this work teach to people that are not of our faith? Let's make a quick list:
1. God Lives and loves us all; we are his spirit children, brothers and sisters, in a literal sense.
2. Adversity is how God helps us to progress
3. Charity or pure love should be our highest goal
4. Pride, or enmity between ourselves and others, and particularly between ourselves and God, will hamper our progress
5. There was a life that we lived before this one, where we lived with God in a place of beauty and love
6. A veil divides us from the memories of our life before we came here
7. There is a spirit within us, that is the template for our physical body, that looks just like we look now
8. Forgiveness arises from our ability to have Charity
9. Prayer to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ is how I get answers, and I encourage others to do the same
10. The body is in reality a temple of God
11. God has a purpose for each of us
12. Integrity is living what we know or believe to be true
13. The principle of proxy work is a true principle (think temple work and the atonement; both performed by proxy)
14. Love is the highest vibration of all; we are meant to live in a state of love
15. All things are accomplished by faith and belief
16. We are strangers here; "trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home."
17. We are here to gain the experience of living in physical bodies, and to learn to choose between good and evil, and to gain faith
18. We have always existed
19. The universe is filled with intelligence
Back in about 1997 I was reading the scriptures and came across this verse in the Book of Mormon, (Alma 26:22)
22 Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.
I felt the spirit very strongly when I read this verse, and I pondered over it for some time. I thought, "Is it really true that I can do what this verse says? That if I repent, and exercise faith, and pray continually without ceasing, that I will be able to bring thousands of souls to repentance?" I decided to have enough faith to act on this scripture.
Shortly after that experience, I was praying about what I could do to share my testimony with more people. The answer immediately came to me; in my mind I saw an image of the galaxy, and 'heard' a voice telling me to put an image like that into my powerpoint presentation, and to testify to the people that I know that God lives. I immediately followed this instruction, and while it was a bit scary the first time I did it, it quickly became a matter of habit, to bear that testimony to people about the existence of their Heavenly Father. I have done this in every seminar and workshop that I have done with a very few exceptions since then. I have been able to bear that testimony now to many thousands of souls over all these years since then. Some have ignored this, some have been immediately moved to tears by it from the Holy Ghost testifying of the truth of it, and we even had our first baptism this year from the result of these teachings, a young man in Scotland. I hope there are many more. I have become much more bold than I ever was before, but people seem to respect my beliefs. In the world we are living in, someone who publicly declares their belief in God in relation to their business is rather rare, it seems.
Please understand that I am simply trying to be an instrument in God's hands in all of this. I feel that I am the lowliest of all of God's servants, and I keep telling people that this work is not about me, but is about empowering them, each person, to help and to heal themselves and their loved ones.
Let me give you a quote from the recent conference address given by Dallin Oaks...
Latter-day Saints believe in applying the best available scientific knowledge and techniques. We use nutrition, exercise, and other practices to preserve health, and we enlist the help of healing practitioners, such as physicians and surgeons, to restore health.
The use of medical science is not at odds with our prayers of faith and our reliance on priesthood blessings. When a person requested a priesthood blessing, Brigham Young would ask, “Have you used any remedies?” To those who said no because “we wish the Elders to lay hands upon us, and we have faith that we shall be healed,” President Young replied: “That is very inconsistent according to my faith. If we are sick, and ask the Lord to heal us, and to do all for us that is necessary to be done, according to my understanding of the Gospel of salvation, I might as well ask the Lord to cause my wheat and corn to grow, without my plowing the ground and casting in the seed. It appears consistent to me to apply every remedy that comes within the range of my knowledge, and [then] to ask my Father in Heaven . . . to sanctify that application to the healing of my body.”1
Of course we don’t wait until all other methods are exhausted before we pray in faith or give priesthood blessings for healing. In emergencies, prayers and blessings come first. Most often we pursue all efforts simultaneously. This follows the scriptural teachings that we should “pray always” (D&C 90:24) and that all things should be done in wisdom and order.2
I know that there are those who believe that Western medicine has a complete monopoly on truth. I believe that, while Western medicine makes many wonderful advances, they have no such monopoly. I suppose there are some in the church who believe that we have all the truth about healing that we are ever going to get; and that any new truth that will be revealed about healing will, of necessity, come through Western medicine. I do not believe this is true. Instead, I believe that there are many things that are “yet to be revealed” by our Father in Heaven, even in relation to the healing arts, and that they may not necessarily come through mainstream medicine!
18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures;
It is my testimony to the world that the above Scripture is true. Those who believe that we have all the knowledge about healing that we need, or that we will ever have, don't really believe the Scriptures. If we had all the knowledge that was available about everything why would the Scriptures speak of “hidden treasures of knowledge?”
There was a woman in our Ward a couple of years ago was very skeptical about the Emotion Code. She later told us that she prayed about it, and in answer to her prayer she heard a voice which said to her “just because you don't understand this doesn't mean that it is not true.”
So, my advice is to simply hang in there. As long as you are praying to God in the name of Jesus Christ, in asking Him for His help, I don't think you can go wrong. On the other hand, if you are not praying and asking for help, as in any other area of human endeavor, you may be led astray. So pray!

I hope this will help others of you that may have been wondering about energy work & the Emotion Code.
